A drawing

here's a sketch on bristol, 8 x 10, used a colour pencil and a tiny bit of pastel.

It was difficult to get this one right, I had to fail a few hard worked drawings (all of which were about a third the size.). I'll be doing some more head studies to try and get better.

Here's one of the disasters:

  1. Turned out great, Rod! Love the "no" on the one that got binned. ^_^ Although I don't think that one looked too bad either.

  2. hahahah, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who writes 'No' on failed drawings. The blue sketch looks effortless.

  3. Nice. I can see how this one can be frustrating, with the cloth separating her arm from the rest of the body. You picked one of the trickiest things to do, which is to cover where a limb attaches to the torso in such a definite way. Also, the way the scapula and the arm are positioned - that is the toughest thing for me. I did a drawing with the elbow up like that last night and FUCKED it up. Only thing I might possibly change is the sharpness of her elbow bones, but that's a matter of taste.

  5. AHAHA that IS Ala. So freaking cool! That she got to model for you AND that you are so awesome it was like a photo, only better. Good stuff man, love it.
